About the retreat location:
Our retreat is housed in a historic buddhist temple set in lush green jungle 3 minutes walk to the ocean at Laupahoehoe Point (north shore, Big Island, Hawaii). You can hear the ocean (about 350 m away), and you can see a glimpse of the ocean through the jungle out the bedroom windows. No other houses are visible from our retreat temple, so it has a very private feeling. The only sign of other humans is the occasional trekker or car passing on the small paved road in front which leads to the ocean.

Our retreat temple tucked in the jungle by the ocean. See it?
The house is an old buddhist temple, not a fancy hotel, so the furnishings are very simple. All our baths are shared. We have two full bathrooms which have bathtubs, and we also have a nice outdoor shower with hot water. The beds are comfortable; clean linens and bath towels are provided. We practice yoga in the beautiful 1600 sq ft. temple room. Yoga mats, blocks, blankets, straps, etc. are provided. Each week we have an average of 8-10 very interesting guests from around the world, and never more than 12 people. So the atmosphere is very friendly.
We are located by Laupahoehoe Point Park and it’s large clean grass-covered lawn, picnic tables, dramatic coast for walks along the ocean, and great places for outdoor yoga or meditation in shade or sun.

The park is a perfect place for walking, picnics, naps, reading, etc. For times when you want to stay walking distance from the retreat you can enjoy the big park by the ocean, find your own secret ocean-front cove with no other people around, or explore the jungle all around the retreat. Huge trees, flowers, fruit, and no hotels for many miles. You might feel like you’re in the movie Avatar. In addition to the big lawn at the public park, we also have a small private grassy lawn in the garden behind the temple which is ideal for private sunbathing, reading, etc. In our temple garden you will find tropical fruits – bananas, lemons, oranges, grapefruits, papaya, cacao, and more.
What to bring:
Our retreat is on the north shore of Hawaii (Big Island) with a lush jungle climate, rain and sun mixed. It is usually very warm in the daytime and cool at night. In addition to your swimsuit also bring a sweater or hoodie and light rain jacket. Also bring flashlight sunglasses, sun-hat, beach blanket/towel, and house slippers (no street shoes in the temple). In consideration of other guests who want a rest from stressful ‘news’, please do not bring newspapers or magazines.

Car rentals sometimes permit early return without penalty, check your car rental contract for details.
